It is not so hard to loose your administrator’s password to Windows XP. And since not everyone has reset floppy diskette ready ( 2% of users approx.), there must be some other way to get to your computer. I offer you one way where you are gonna need your install CD, serial number and approx. 40 minutes of time. Here is how to do it step by step.
1. Insert CD with your Windows XP into the CD mechanics and go to BIOS. Set booting of your system from CD. Save settings and restart your computer.
2. After restart you should see ‘Press any key to boot from cd’. Do it and let’s begin our mission.
3. As soon as you get to ‘Welcome to setup’ , press ‘Enter’ to start setup.
4. Press ‘F8’ to submit License.
5. In next step you have to start repair process of OS. Do it by choosing option ‘Repair’ – simply press ‘R’.
6. Windows starts controlling system and copying files. This takes several minutes.
7. After this your computer restarts. This time time do not press anything when message ‘Press any key to boot from cd’. Let your OS launch from harddisk this time.
8. In this moment you can see ‘Installing Windows’ on your screen.
9. This is a very important step. Just watch left side of the screen and when you will see ‘Installing Devices’, just press ‘SHIFT + F10′. This is a willful security hole. After this, a command console will appear that allows you to access to the system.
10. Type ‘NUSRMGR.CPL’ into the console and press ‘Enter’.
11. Now you are in a graphics interface of User Accounts in Control Panel. Here you can delete your old password in a give account and replace it with new one. If done, just close Control Panel and Command Console and continue with installation of Windows.
12. Enter serial number, set time etc.

The advantage of this solution is that this process does not endanger your files and leave them intact.
