If your password was longer than 14 characters or contained any other symbols than big or small letters or numbers - you do not have to continue reading. Otherwise read on and you will have your password back in few seconds.
The solution is called Òphcrâck and is absolutely free! All you have to do is to burn live Linux distribution SLAX6 on your CD and boot your system right from this CD. There is an application that can pull out your forgotten password without any problems. The passwords are stored in Security Accounts Manager ( SAM) in C:\Windows\System32\config. This file is secured with 128 bit key. Òphcrâck can decrypt SAM file and your password is back. Of course if SAM file is stored somewhere else then it is a problem. Simply in case if your system doesn’t save hash values of LAN manager in folder Active Directory and local databases of SAM, Òphcrâck will not help you much. This is way how to keep your passwords safer. How to prevent from stealing your password you can read here.
And now back to our problem. This is how you do it, step by step:
1. Burn thisISO file on a CD.
2. In BIOS set CD as your first boot device. Save and Exit Setup.
3. After restart system will boot from CD and and your password should appear in few seconds.
That’s all, it’s this simple!
